Rebuilding Trust After Betrayal: The Role of Therapeutic Disclosure and Polygraph within the Couple-Centered Recovery Model
A Talk by Kathy Reynolds CPC, PSAP and Conrad Reynolds CPC
About this Talk
Rebuilding trust after betrayal is one of the most challenging journeys a couple can undertake. While trust can be shattered in an instant, rebuilding it takes time, honesty, and consistent accountability. One of the most effective tools in this process is therapeutic disclosure, often supported by a polygraph to verify truthfulness. But many people have questions about this process—Is it necessary? Is it fair? Does it really work?
Today, we will explore these questions using the Couple-Centered Recovery® (CCR) model, a structured framework that helps couples heal together, rather than treating betrayal as an individual recovery process. CCR consists of three key phases:
Safety & Stability – Re-establishing emotional and relational safety. Grieving Together – Processing the loss of trust and past wounds. Revisioning the Relationship – Creating a new, healthier foundation.
By the end of this discussion, you’ll see how therapeutic disclosure and polygraphs fit into this model, setting the stage for a relationship built on transparency, security, and mutual healing.
